Boston Applied Technologies Incorporated
Introduces High Speed Optical Power Regulator/Limiter

Woburn, MA, September 16, 2003 - Boston Applied Technologies Incorporated (BATI), a leading developer of light intensity and polarization management products, today announced the introduction of a high speed, high precision optical power regulator/limiter (OPR). Based on a high performance EclipseTM variable optical attenuator (VOA) and high precision control circuits, BATI's OPR provides an ultimate solution for optical power stabilizing and limiting. The OPR uses the output from an optical power monitor to control the VOA in a closed-loop fashion. Because of the high-speed response of the VOA, the OPR can be as fast as 30 µs. The product can be set to maintain the output optical power at a constant level, countering the power fluctuations and sparks caused by PDL, channel add/drop, and other sources. The system can control the output power level to better than ±0.01 dB. The products can also be used as an optical power limiter to protect the down streams. The complete unit can be either a stand-alone unit (as shown) or a module for system integration.
